What Every Resident Should Know About Code Compliance 

The City of Tolleson strives to maintain the character and aesthetic quality of the community by working with property owners to ensure compliance with existing City regulations.

The City of Tolleson Code Compliance section is dedicated to protecting the public health, safety and welfare, while ensuring every citizen the right to a clean, enjoyable neighborhood.

Typical Complaints include:

  • Abandoned vehicles
  • Green / Stagnant pools
  • Graffiti
  • Inoperable vehicles stored on private property
  • Illegally parked vehicles
  • Noise violations
  • Overgrown weeds and other vegetation
  • Unpermitted/unlicensed businesses
  • Visible garbage or trash

Signs

  • Unlawful to attach any signs to a utility pole or structure, streetlight, traffic signal, tree, fence, fire hydrant, park, bench, or other location on public property.

Vehicles (Abandoned)

  • Unsheltered storage of any abandoned vehicle or abandoned vehicle parts on any private property within the city limits for a period of 15 days or more is considered a nuisance and dangerous to public safety and is prohibited.
    An abandoned vehicle is any vehicle: 
    Inoperable, Stripped, Scrapped, Junked, Discarded, or under repair for 72 hours or more.

Trash/ Weeds/ Debris/ Litter

  • Unlawful to place or cause to be placed any refuse upon public or private property within the city limits except as permitted.
  • Owner or person in control of any private property must maintain premises free of litter, weeds, filth or debris at all times.
  • Unlawful for a person to deposit any refuse in non-public container that he or she does not own or is not otherwise entitled to use.

Home Based Businesses

  • Unlawful to operate without a license.
  • Unlawful to conduct any business that is zoned as any residential district without applying for a use permit with the city. Any business which causes excessive noise, odor or other unsafe condition will be subject to code violations.

Noise

  •  Unlawful to allow or permit excessive, unnecessary or offensive noise which disturbs the peace and quite of the adjoining property or neighborhood.
  •  Unlawful to allow or permit noise which causes discomfort or annoyance to any reasonable person.

Nuisances

  • Unlawful for any person to maintain or cause a nuisance or fail to perform any act required to remove or stop a nuisance. This includes failure to comply with a court order or abatement.

Stagnant "Green" Pools.

  • Unlawful to allow or fail to maintain residential pools where water becomes stagnant or if considered a health or environmental safety risk.

Bulk Trash Pickup

  • Our city also offers a bulk pick up service provided by Waste Connections out of Apache Junction. The bulk pick up is split up into zones. Zone 1 north of Van Buren St collection is the last Wednesday of the month and Zone 2 south of Van Buren St is the last Thursday of the month.
