Tolleson Police Chief Rudy Mendoza Appointed Interim Director of Public Safety and Assistant Chief Jeff Grow, Interim Police Chief
Tolleson, AZ (June 7, 2022) The City of Tolleson announced today that Police Chief Rudy Mendoza was appointed Interim Director of Public Safety and Assistant Chief Jeff Grow as Interim Police Chief. This appointment comes as Fire Chief George Good retired effective June 2021 after serving the Tolleson community for over 17 years in the capacity of Fire Chief followed by one year under contracted services.
Chief Mendoza has worked for the department for 22 years. Mendoza began as a police dispatcher in 2000 before attending the Phoenix Regional Police Academy. He was promoted to sergeant after five years of service. In 2017, he was named to the rank commander where he oversaw Police Operations.
Chief Good’s tenure was strewn with amazing accomplishments, such as the construction of a new fire station, acquisition of numerous fire apparatuses, and the legacy of leadership found in his battalion chiefs. Most notable of all was his relentless pursuit of corona virus testing and vaccines that continues to thwart COVID’s impact on the lives of all Tollesonians, as well as, all of Arizona and beyond.
These achievements are well documented, but as with any great leader, what Chief Good did when no one was watching reveals his true character. His relationship with the school districts kept our children safer and his cultivation of corporate and interagency partnership continues to provide critical emergency management resources. Additionally, his selfless investment in the lives of our senior population reminds us of what is most important to Tolleson. Chief Good made numerous welfare visits to local seniors if he heard they needed help with a simple household chore or to administer blood pressure checks. He also made house calls, as a certified paramedic, to provide COVID vaccinations to entire families.
Chief Good played a critical role in navigating the Tolleson community through the most uncertain of times, the COVID-19 pandemic. As soon as COVID-19 tests became available with his guidance, the first community-testing site in Tolleson was established. He also coordinated west valley vaccinations events providing much needed hope to residents in the area. Providing accessible testing and vaccinations was and continues to be a primary focus to slowing the spread of COVID-19.
The City is certain that Interim Director of Public Safety Mendoza will strive to serve the community with the same passion as Chief Good.
