Tolleson Breaks Ground For New Civic Center

Council Members at the Berm

The City of Tolleson Mayor and Council hosted a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site, 9055 West Van Buren Street, of the Tolleson Civic Center. The ceremony streamed live on Facebook on June 17, 2021.This $22 million Civic Center, once completed, will be the new home of the Tolleson City Hall, Library and Senior Center.

The new library will offer five private meeting spaces, a large conference room with video conferencing and Wi-Fi capability. It will have children’s indoor and outdoor spaces for imaginative play, a crawler space for babies. The Library will have an adult lounging area, a teen gaming and meeting space, a self-service printing, faxing, scanning center, a self-service checkout station, public computers and a bookstore.

The new senior center will house the Community Action Program and Housing offices. The center will have a multipurpose room that will allow ample space to serve lunch, and host daily activities, presentations and many fiestas. This flex room will open up to a patio and greenspace. The entire center will be ADA accessible.

The council chambers will also serve as a multipurpose room, which will allow the flexibility to host a variety of community events.  This room will open up to a courtyard to host indoor and outdoor functions.

Administrative offices will also be located at the Civic Center where residents will be able to continue to set up and pay for utility services. Business owners will be able to obtain permits and submit plans at this facility.

Tolleson Civic Center will serve as our community’s depository of memories depicted in its statues, plaques, landscape, pathways and interchangeable mural network adorned by local Tolleson artists.  The Tolleson arts initiative, led by Councilman Jimmy Davis, will capture the collective imagination of our culture to propel Tolleson to new artistic heights never before conceived.

"We are thrilled to be breaking ground on such an amazing facility.  Our residents deserve a state-of-the-art civic center to call home. We are hopeful that with this new Tolleson Civic Center along with our amazing employees, we will continue to bring happiness and outstanding service to our community and organization as a whole.” Stated Mayor Juan F. Rodriguez.
